Secure Enterprise Communications

In today’s cutthroat markets the loss of privileged information constitutes one of the most dangerous threats to every business. Worldwide, eavesdropping has reached epidemic proportions. The American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) estimated “potential losses from intellectual property theft for US-based companies to be more than $300 billion annually”.

Phone calls carry the very latest information and put organizations’ most critical secrets at risk while the Internet is literally bursting with information and instructions on how to eavesdrop on wireline and mobile phones, securing the voice and fax communications becomes a competitive factor.

The Concept

The Snapzone™ solution enables enterprises to establish a secure VPN (Virtual Private Network) for voice and fax communications over the enterprise’s telephone network infrastructure, the PSTN and GSM networks.

Secure small and medium size organizations

For enterprises that want to secure a large number of users installing encryption devices on each internal telephone line might not be cost effective. The alternative is to install Snapfones on external analog lines, in front of the PBXs, thus enabling any number of users to enjoy secure communications even from a digital or a smart phone extension.

Users wishing to make secure calls will dial a special outside line prefix or special code (depending on PBX configuration) to receive a secure line. They will then proceed as usual. If the destination number is part of the Snapzone members list, the calling Snapfone initiates a secure connection, if not, a regular connection is established.

It is as simple as that!

Secure Fax Communications

In today’s business environment, despite increasing popularity of digital communications, critical business data is transferred via fax communications. As any other communication over  the telephone lines, fax communication is also vulnerable to eavesdropping.

Snapshield creates safe fax zone

Snapzone provides corporations with a cost-effective means of transparently securing fax communications between their different offices by establishing a secure virtual private network over the public telephone infrastructure. The safe zone can be extended to include strategic suppliers and business partners (lawyers, accountants).

The Snapzone is transparent to users – all users continue to send faxes as usual. If the destination fax is part of the Snapzone members list, the calling Snapfone initiates a secure fax connection, if not, a regular connection is established. It is as simple as that!

Secure Teleconferencing

With the advent of the global village the physical distance between offices of the same corporations have greatly increased – often corporations span not only different countries, but also different continents. Now more than ever enterprises want to be able to hold meetings without having to fly over their employees to one location – the answer is teleconferencing.

On the other hand critical secrets can be discussed during these teleconferences and since eavesdropping has reached epidemic proportions worldwide, securing audio teleconferences becomes necessary.

There are several options for creating a secure audio teleconference zone, depending on the corporate needs. The basic configuration for a multiparty conference requires Snapfone units to be installed in front of the PBX in the central office (on external analog lines), while in the other sites the Snapfones can be installed either on an internal analog line, connected to a telephone or a conference phone, or in front of the PBX on external analog lines.

Secure Mobile GSM networks

In today’s dynamic environment you rely on cellular communication to keep in contact with your business and home from all around the world 24 hours a day.

Snapshield has developed Snapcell, a plug-in cellular encryption unit to enable secure point-to-point GSM communications.

Unlike other existing GSM solutions, which require you to purchase a dedicated – and expensive – cellular handset, Snapcell is an accessory for the popular Ericsson and Sony-Ericsson handsets. Just attach Snapcell into the handset and enjoy military-strength security at EFR voice quality!

Component Description

Snapfone

he Snapzone solution consists of a set of encryption termination units, Snapfone™, which are installed on analog telephone lines and management software that facilitates the configuration and administration of the system.

The Snapfone is a plug and play CPE unit, connected between an analog telephone or fax machine and the wall socket, which provides digital encryption.

The Snapfone will create a modem session and after successfully synchronized, will establish an agreement key session using Diffie-Hellman algorithm in order to generate a mutual secret 3DES key that will secure the channel.

All Snapfone devices belonging to one group are configured with the same list of telephone numbers or prefixes – the VPN list.

Whenever a Snapzone user dials a number that is part of the VPN list – his Snapfone will automatically seek to reach the called party in a secure way.

Most important:  none of the parties is required to press any button or to perform any other action in order to secure the call.

In this way one does not need to worry about the privacy of his calls; all calls to his Snapzone members will be seamlessly and transparently secure.

The management software enables the system administrators to configure and maintain the Snapzone members list. The system supports up to 100 telephone numbers and prefixes.

The Snapfone’s software can be programmed and upgraded factory based, remotely or via a RS232 connection to PC.

The Snapfone can be controlled and operated remotely via DTMF. Bi-directional DTMF and signaling bits to the carrier are transferred transparently.

Snapfone Features

High level encryption process with new key draw for each session [Asymmetric

Public Key Cryptography (Diffie-Hellman) for key exchanging and Symmetric block

cipher (3DES) algorithm for session encryption].

End-to-end secures analog telephone and fax communications over private and public

            infrastructure.

Enables extension of secure communication to home offices.

Transparency – no action required by user.

Seamless integration – no changes to telephone infrastructure required.

          Ease of use.

VPN list of up to 100 prefixes and telephone numbers.

          Minimal management required.

          Authentication and access control capabilities.

          DTMF controlled.

Supports 1 second round trip delay.

Snapcell

The Snapzone solution consists also of a set of encryption termination units, Snapcell™, which are installed as an accessory on Sony-Ericsson cellular handsets

Snapcell serves for the similar purpose as Snapfone, with the difference that it provides secure sessions for GSM. Unlike other existing GSM solutions, which require you to purchase a dedicated – and expensive – cellular handset, Snapcell is an accessory for the popular Ericsson T28, T39, T61g, T65, T68 R520

and Sony-Ericsson handsets T68i, T200, T226, T230, T238, T290, T300, T310, T312, T316, T610, T616, T618, T628, T630, T637, S500, S700, S710, Z600, Z1010, K300 K500, K506, K508, K700 J300. Just attach Snapcell into the handset and enjoy military-strength security at EFR voice quality!

The Snapcell can also encrypt Data in V110 GSM channel through mini USB connection (optional).

Whenever a subscriber wishes to place a secure call from his cellular handset, the Snapcell will first establish a data session with another Snapcell device and will create a modem session and after successfully synchronized, will establish an agreement key session using Diffie-Hellman algorithm in order to generate a mutual secret AES key that will secure the channel.

The Snapcell’s software can be programmed and upgraded factory based, remotely or via a USB connection to PC.
